DBE and Symmetries

Hi:  I watched the video on DBE which utilized symmetries.  The annular example made sense to me in that the model needs to account for the bright circular area outlined by the symmetry to make an even background, as your example had rings of brightness from vignetting error.

I'm struggling with the use of the diagonal symmetry later in the video...it went through the galaxy.....I would have thought you would avoid the galaxy target area?  Did it work perhaps because despite a high tolerance setting the DBE tool rejected very very bright pixels in the galaxy along that diagonal line?

  • Hi Jeff,

Remember the *sample* is calculated from the little square (which was not on the galaxy I hope). We are basically using this sample as fiducial for points along the line. So... if there is a gradient along the diagonal- the sample defines the from/to symmetry. But the line itself isn't a set of samples... (I am not looking at the part of the lesson you are referring to at the moment)..the line defines the application of the sample in terms of creating the model.
