Star shape after Masked stretch

Hi Adam,

This question/issue is with respect to RGB image.

After using masked stretch, I've noticed that the bigger brighter stars have a defined circular structure whereas before masked stretch the star seems ok. See screenshot.
  • Is this expected result masked stretch or not?
  • If not then what would be the best way to preserve the "natural" shape via Masked stretch
I do realise I'm viewing this particular star @ 1:1 or 2:1, but am just curious about the result.

If I manually stretch it via STF>Histogram Transformation then the star shape is retained, though I do like the result of the masked stretch but not the effect it has on the bigger and brighther stars.

  • Nihal,

    1. Yes this is expected. A masked stretch star is supposed to look like this.
    2. I have several videos demonstrating!!

I do some work on this in the latest workflow of NGC 3486 .
In addition, I even have a section on in in Horizons!

No one... (fill in your favorite instructor here).. nada...have dedicated sections that answer questions like yours.
LOL I want to start quoting Rodney Dangerfield here. :)
