NGC3614 Horizons - Exemplary video series!

Adam,
This processing series is masterful in showing the thinking and decision processing you went through. The last two enhancement videos are certainly not teaching exactly how to do the masks, but how to think and then use the PI tools to achieve the direction of showing the streams. Always some questions...

-- Do you think DBE beat down the streams by being interpreted as gradients?
-- Did PCC have any effect on the background, perhaps neutralizing some color existing in the streams?
-- Do you feel the NSG script gave you (for this NGC3614 data) a better image at the completion of Image Integration stage vs 2015?

I fully respect that you might decide not to provide the complete data set, but perhaps you could share maybe half the raw subs. There is a lot of technique we could work on and learn by doing, but not resulting in showing the streams, which was your goal.

I hope every and all Horizon subscribers appreciate the many hours behind and within this 15 video voyage with destination known. I certainly do. Thank you.

Roger

  • Hi Roger,

    Thanks for the feedback.

    1. I don't think so. The values are simply so small that even if I click on them..it wouldn't make a difference. Also consider that the 2015 rendition did not use DBE...and the 2021 version looks very similar. So I doubt I did any harm.

    2. Again, probably not. But any color there would not be "useful"...it would be noisy even if there was a color. From an astrophysical point of view... you wouldn't expect there to be any color in the streams really.

    3. It certainly helped- but probably not in a way that people would jump up and down in excitement about. These data were relatively similar to one another. So the weights for the majority of images were similar and the gradients too. So... not a huge change- but this is driven by the data- not a deficit of NSG.

    4. I hope so to! lol

  • Thank you. You are very kind.

  • Hi,

Can I ask if the data will be made available to Horizons subscribers?

    I hope so :)

  • At the risk of upsetting the University... yeah, I would like to do this. Let me work on it.

  • Thanks for trying, Adam
  • It is done.
I have made the data available ...
