FastTrack Course

I must have missed something here. I seem to be able to save worked on images as xist files and open them again in PixInsight and the previously completed work is still there. However if I save it as a tiff to open in Photoshop, none of the stretching is there. What am I missing? Thanks

  • The answer to this question is covered in Fundamentals.
However, I did release the older video on YouTube sometime ago. You need to create a permanently stretched (non-linear) image. You likely saved the linear file.

    Please see:

There are three videos to watch.

  • I understand that FastTrack is just to get your feet on the ground and not be so intimidated by the whole process. PixInsight is similar in complexity to the home study course I took in Photoshop over 20 years ago. But I am motivated. However as a suggestion I think learning to save an image processed in PixInsight with all the changes you have made seems like it should be clearly present in FastTrack. IMHO. I didn't realize it took some special moves to do it. I will learn that before make a decision on continuing with coursework. Thanks
  • Yes...there are "special moves" because of the nature of the image. You did save your image- no special moves...but if you want to save your image AND get a permanently stretched version as you want it... then you have to do the special moves. The screen stretch you see in any program (like PixInsight) is just algorithmic result... it is not "THE" answer...just one of many. (and you can adjust the default!)

  • OK figured it out from the three video's you mentioned. Especially the third. I did leave me wanting a bit more though. If I am correct, saving is only a bit more complex with stretching, because it needs to be done with histograms. Missed that completely but have it now. SO far that seems to be the only thing out of the ordinary for me regarding saving an image. Thanks
  • Yes, you need to set how you want the image saved. So you can adjust with the STF (or with HistogramTransformation and the real time preview) and then make it permanent with HistogramTranformation.... then save.

  • I think that this is good. I am guessing and I think observing that using only with the screen stretch while adjusting the image and leaving the actual stretch until later in processing you have less problems with star bloating.
