Fundamentals Workflow example NGC300

Hi Adam,
In your Special Color Adjustments video in this workflow you brought out the red channel contrast to be visible. It is impressive that these can show up.

I have no direct question on this video, but it makes we want to ask. How to know if there are H2 regions (or other things) to enhance; other than experience, and looking at other's posted images. The H2 regions are not visible near the end (at 13:15) of the previous video where you said you wish you could enhance them.

Any suggestions how to look at 2 integrated images (with different integration options), of same object and decide which is better for post processing? Perhaps if I cannot see any differences, then there is no useable difference.  But the H2 regions you brought out came out of something I could not see.

Thank you very much.

I think you are correct in that I used a short cut- I know that spiral galaxies of this type have HII regions and the clumpy brighter bits are them... even if I do not see much color evidence for that.

However, though I did not show it (because I didn't think it necessary), if you raised the color saturation to some stupid silly amount- you can more easily visualize the subtle color differences.

  • Hi Adam,
Your experience is not a shortcut! It is an asset.
I will try cranking up saturation to show things to go back and try to enhance. Thanks for the good tip.
