Curves Transformation - no histogram

When I open curves transformation - following along with the videos - no histogram shows.  Just a black block with the grid over layed.  How do I resolve this?

    Two things...
    1. I have made A LOT of videos! lol. Please give me the video and timestamp of interest. 
    2. My guess is that it depends on what is in the image! 

    But first, let me refresh what I might have been demonstrating... and you might want to show a screen capture of your PI desktop (image and curves process).
