Creating Luminance from OSC

Hi,

does anyone have any suggestions on how to create a luminance from one shot cam data?

I also prescribe to the Photoshop tuts on the site and it seems using luminance data has a significant enough effect to use it, just don't know how to get it using OSC.

You can extract the lightness (luminance) from a color image. 

I circle the icon (one way) in the attached picture...
