STF: Blackpoint value greater than Midpoint value?

edited March 2021 in PixInsight
I'm working my through the Fundamentals videos, now on STF on a Gray image
I've found that after doing a Nuclear Stretch, the value for the Midpoint is LESS than the value for the Blackpoint.
How can that be correct?  Do you think that's a bug, or am I misunderstanding something here.

I've taken a screenshot of the parameters....

thanks
Gordon

  • Hi Gordon,

The MidTones value is its position BETWEEN the black and white points. When you look at the STF little carats, the left one is the black level (which has a value compared to the original full range) and the same is true for the white point. The Midtones is relative to the these positions with the black point always equaling 0 and the white point being 1.

I think this is the correct way to think of it. Let me know if that makes sense.
See my picture that is attached. I made the black level 0.5 AND the midtone value is halfway between the new black point and the white point on the far right. So it also has a value of 0.5.

    Good question!
