Noise reduction

Hi
As a newbie to this forum but not to imaging and a progressor with PI, I am delighted to have this wonderful facility.
I'm working my way through Adam's videos piece by piece, but wondered where the best resource is for removal of noise from my images.
At present I am experimenting with an old, but serviceable SXV M8c and a WO ZS66, which is producing some fairly noisy images - for a variety of reasons. I'm happy to keep working through the topics, but could really do with a pointer in the right direction in the meantime.
Thanks for any help
Keith

  •  A few topics come to mind.
    1. MURE Denoise (but this might not work as well with a CMOS sensor...depends)
    2. MLT removal (or bias adjustment) of the 1 and or 2 layers.
    3. TGVDenoise

All of this things are covered as you work your way through the material.
If you just simply cannot wait- I did make the M51 workflow for those that like to skip the explanations.

  • Thanks Adam - I'm working my way through, so I will get there, but I'm also impatient and like to run and fall over! One more thing if I may, do you cover 'Local Normalisation'? You refer a few times to normailsed images, but this is something I have never used.
    Thanks
    Keith
  • In PixInsight the normalized images are technically transparent to the user..they are internal. But the idea is important to understand if you want to understand what PixInsight is doing..and what the parameters are for.
I actually wanted Juan to make the normalized versions of the images available for output so I could demonstrate rejection methods in detail. However... I think it isn't going to happen for merely educational purposes.
