Hello,
I'm new to this forum and would like to submit a question about saturated stars. When we look closely at a saturated star we see the bright core and in the core there is a circular region which is slightly darker as if the light curve of the star is cut of at a certain intensity and in the flat cut-off there is a region with a slightly lower intensity (like a volcano with steep crater edges).
What is causing this effect? Can someone explain this phenomenon? Can we do something about it?
regards
Jean
