Showing Black Mask on View Not 100% Opaque

When I create a completely black mask with all pixels set to zero using PixelMath and I apply it to an image it does not completely obscure the image. It appears to be about 50% opaque. I'm using Rendering Mode Overlay Blue but it's the same if I choose other colours. (I would attach a screenshot to this but it won't upload.) I think I must have inadvertently changed some setting but can't find anything relevant.
Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

  • Agreed.
The VISUALIZATION of a mask is not the same as application of the mask itself.
I never use/rely on the visualization of the mask. It is supposed to be a guide of some sort to help you know the coverage- but it does not apply the actual logic of the mask.

You should be able to apply a completely black mask to an image and then attempt to perform any adjustment to the image- and nothing should happen since you will have protected all pixels.

I have never found the visualization of the mask useful. All that matters is the mask itself.

  • OK. It all seems to work just fine apart from the visualisation.
