SII & Hb filter processing

Sorry if this has been discussed I couldn't find anything. But my question is how to use the data from an SII Hb filter with the traditional Ha OIII data?

TIA

  • Hi Roberto,

I do cover this in NB FastTrack. Did you watch the videos?
I cover extracting SII from Dual band filters (DBExtract).
I also discuss the fact that Hb correlates/maps with Ha strongly (usually) that its usefulness is questionable. You can simply change the color of the Ha (add Blue) rather than add another channel. However, you can use NBColorMapper if you really want to have 4 color channels. I did not demonstrate because I feel the results are underwhelming. (If you can point out some compelling results...I am all eyes...)

Thank you. I thought I watch them all but I’ll go back and rewatch them.
  • I am pretty sure I talked about this when explaining the DBExtract script.
As I say, the Hb maps with Ha in the vast majority of cases- so how do you use it as a contrasting color?

  • I just rewatched the videos twice and didn’t see anything about Hb. Is it possible in DBExtract to assign the SII Hb filter to the SII OIII filter option and output one OIII by adding the Hb from one filter to the OIII of the other and using that as OIII?
  • I did make a comment about hydrogen beta in my tutorials. I indicated that it maps with hydrogen alpha so closely that it doesn’t seem like it’s a very helpful band to work with.

With respect to the oxygen absolutely DBextract extract has the option to combine the 203 channels. I thought I mentioned this as well.
