Master Files and Calibrated Data

I think I already know the answer to these questions, but I want to make sure I'm understanding.

1.  There is nothing wrong with creating a set of Master files for your camera ahead of time and just using it for your image processing.  WBPP seems perfectly happy to do this and I was left with a nice set of Master Bias, Darks, and Flats that then don't need to be reprocessed every time.  It seems WBPP creates these files first anyway so I'm just cutting down on what is essentially pre-processing.  All correct?

2.  I have some data sets that include both raw and calibrated data (from iTelescope and from my club scope).  The calibrated files haven't been aligned, stacked, had CC run on them, etc, but they have been corrected for Bias, Darks, and Flats.  Unless I feel like doing some more advanced calibration (which I'm probably not up for yet), there is no reason not to just start with the calibrated files and run the rest of the processing.  Correct?

3.  WBPP is very kindly storing all of the processed data at each step in new directories so there is minimal to no risk of overwriting your raw data.  Correct?

I'm about ready to start melting down my computer by testing some real data.

  • Hi Edward,

    1. Yes, absolutely.
    2. Correct
    3. Correct... in fact it is a little bit stronger than that. The current method of caching data will *always create new files* and NEVER overwrite. So... be aware if you did run something twice you will see multiple sets of images.
