WBPP calibration groupings question

edited January 13 in PixInsight
Adam,

Let's say that I have three folders of lights for one filter. The lights in the three folders were taken at three different times that require different matching master flats and perhaps different matching master darks. In each of the three folders, I pasted a copy of a matching master flat and master dark.

So, there are three folders of lights of the same filter and in each folder is a matching master flat and master dark. Is there some way to load all three folders into WBPP at once and have WBPP calibrate the lights using their matching master calibration files?

Separately calibrating and registering three different folders of lights of the same filter is not much of a hassle but let's say that I have many folders of lights of the same filter that have their own matching calibration master files. If I periodically take new flats and paste a copy of the matching master flat in the different lights' folders, I would like to know if there is an efficient way to dump these in WBPP all at once and have it sort and calibrate the lights using the appropriate calibration master files.

  • Hi Shannon,

    1. You do not need to have folders separated by filter. You can if you want- but you can put all data in each filter into folders that require matching calibration frames. The reason is because WBPP always matches files based on filter by default.
    2. You have correctly organized the information by putting the calibration data that you want to match with the light frame data in the same folder.

Your question indicates you are not using Keywords... which is the answer.

So you would set up your folders as the following....lets say you took a picture of the CrinkleNebula.

Each folder would contain  rgbrgbrgb... dark, dark, dark....bias, bias, bias... flat, flat, flat... etc that all match.
    "CrinkleNebula" is the keyword
Anything that follows with an underscore are values that will be used for matching.

    So:
    CrinkleNebula_OscarGroup
    CrinkleNebula_PiggyGroup
    CrinkleNebula_KermitGroup

In WBPP you input CRINKLENEBULA is the KEYWORD and you set it up for the pre-processing matching only.

This is all explained in the WBPP video on Grouping Keywords (by night(s)).

You do not need to iterate and run anything multiple times. This is the point of Grouping Keywords. This is an innovation I suggested for WBPP in its early development and worked with Roberto to get it in place (he programmed it of course).
