I have created an 8 panel mosaic of M31 using the PhotometricMosaic script. It is a large file at 1.6GB. I have applied SPCC and 2 rounds of BlurX (correct only and full correct). I like what I see so now I do a little STF (ScreenTransferFunction) to make things a little better. I apply the STF to HistogramTransformation and then to the image. What I get is not what I expect. I loose many stars and get a very soft look to the image. Anyone want to try it? Let me know if I am doing something wrong. Here is the Google Drive link:
If you are zoomed out of your image- you have to remember that PixInsight is rendering your zoomed out image on your screen using some graphical math and interpolation. You are not losing stars or data.
This is just a graphics issue of displaying very large images. If you were to actually save your image at the same number of pixels as is being displayed on your desktop (say as a JPEG) you would find your final image is perfectly fine.
In fact if you start zooming in... you would find the image looks better as well.
