Linear Fit vs HDRComposition

I have 20 sec exposures and 240 sec exposures for M42. In the past I have used HDRComposition; but after 
reviewing the LinearFit tutorial would preforming linear fit aid the HDRComposition used later or cause problems.
Is it one or than other or do they work in conjunction with each other?

    This is how HDRComposition works. It is performing that linear fit on your images and making masks to cover up the bits that are saturated in the longer exposures. So LF before HDRC wouldn't help anything as far as I know. Never hurts to experiment though.
