GPU for Russell Croman tools

Hello,
I have a Radeon 6800XT GPU. I've noted that the Xterminator tools run MUCH faster on NVIDIA GPUs when the time is taken to enable to AI accelaration. I was wondering what the best bang-for-buck option is. I'm guessing either the RTX 4070 or 4080 (NOT Ti or Super versions). Obviously the 4090 would be the 'money is no object' option but I'm not interested in spending $2k on a GPU with the 50XX series on the horizon.
Thanks!
Jon

  • I also recommend the 4070.  I had a 3060 and it was very fast.  The 4070 is about twice as fast.  I'd say if you were planning on upgrading to a 50xx soon, it might make sense to go with a 3060 or something in that series but if you will be keeping it for long term, the 4070 is a great choice.  I'm not sure going any higher than a 4070 makes much sense at this time.  Even on very large images created from mosaicing four 26 mega-pixel OSC frames (each 6250x4200), it takes less than a minute or so to run any of the Xterminator processes on the 4070.  I don't see the benefit of paying 2x the price to knock that down to 30 seconds.  For a single-frame 26 Mpixel OSC image, none of the processes take more than 30 seconds on the 4070 (usually less).
  • Thanks! I work with the 110mb data from the ASI6200. This data often gets 2x upscaled. Upscaled files take 30 minutes to run on my 6800 XT
