Sir Blockhead, thanks for the help but no joy with the sudo. It needed developer tools loaded which I did but volumes not found.

Maybe I need to reboot, I'll try that and report back.

select .X in the file explorer window (next to wrench icon)

Yes, you have to use the .X and then you’ll see /volumes show up. I asked about PI working around that but there was no interest in it as the extra steps work…
