Using WBPP to Handle Multiple Target Names as One

I apologize for asking this question since I think is essentially already handled so brilliantly in Adam's WBPP Series. It's outstanding!

But I hope for further clarification: I have a particular set of light frames that happen to have data with different Object names in the FITS header, yet they are identical targets.  (Example,  one target set is "Eta Carinae", another set is 1_Eta Carinae, another is ECarNeb). They are truly identical in all respects (coordinates/rotation/the system etc.). The reason for the variation in names I chose is irrelevant. (It was a Voyager/Robotarget related matter I was experimenting around with)

What is the easiest way to have WBPP post process the multiple fits files as one? Secondarily, what name will WBPP automatically assign to the MasterLight?

Asking a slightly different question, does WBPP simply allow for "ignore or disregard a keyword"?
Thank you.

  • Hi Howard,

I I understand your question... You do not need to do anything.
WBPP doesn't care about object names in Fits headers or anywhere else unless you make it care.
So you do not use keywords and all of the files, no matter what object name, will be combined.

The the case your data IS be grouped by a keyword that you do not want that kind of grouping to occur- this case it isn't so much that you ignore a keyword- instead you either override it or specify your own unique one that does the grouping you would like.

  • Thanks Blockhead. (I feel uncomfortable calling you that). Thanks for nailing the question. Your answer is as I anticipated but I feel better with your assurances since I am doing some strange manipulations of target names for acquisition reasons only.  I didn't want that to be creating a processing issue I would later regret.

    Much appreciated.
