Star halo

Hello Adam,

After viewing hours and hours of your wonderful videos I start to feel confident with pixinsight! I would like to thank you for that!
Never the less I still cannot figure how to reduce my weirds stars halos. here is attached an example with M42  using a FLI Kepler 4040 and an 130GTX astro physics refractor. I am struggling to reduce the square like  halo around the brightest stars.

  • Hmmm...  It reminds me of microlensing a little bit. I do not know what the surface of that sensor is like...but my guess would be it is from the sensor. Note it is not aligned with your diffraction spikes. An interesting test would be to slightly rotate the sensor. If my theory is correct...I think it would rotate the diamond halo with respect to the diffraction. If it does not...then it is not the sensor and is something with the optics.

    Does that make sense?

  • Thank you, Adam, for your answer. It is not clear checking on FLI website but I think the Sense sensor has micro lenses. I will follow your advice an turn slightly the camera on my next trip to E-Eye, as my setup is operated remotely.

    clear skies
