SPCC Chanel zero no stars found

Hello Folks
I would like to request some help for something I am doing wrong.    The error I am experiencing is in the SPCC module, “no stars in Chanel zero”.  I have deleted everything and rerun three times now from the beginning making sure I reset WBPP to defaults.  I did run DBE prior to this.   I have even tried running SPCC prior to DBE with the same results.   If I run without a stretch it will run but I lose my nebula around the Pleadies & the results are red.  So I am doing it wrong.  In the fundamentals in the stretch section Adam said that the stretch could do this but I have found nothing to correct this.  Can someone offer some advice.   I can pass any data that I have.

Scope is 405mm, camera is ZWO 2600 OSC, Computer is ASIair plus, Data: Lights are 60 shots @ 60 sec, Darks, 20 @60 sec, Flats 20@ 5sec, Dark flats 20@ 5sec

FYI that error has also happened when I tried to process the Rossette Nebula. So this has to be something I am doing wrong.  I have had successful runs but I am a beginner.

Thanks
John

  • Did you watch my latest update in Fundamentals on NGC 1491?
You did not mention this... but did you neglect to mention you used BXT?

  • Thank you for taking the time to answer!   No I have not seen this segment yet.  I am only up to the BlurXTerminator section on fundamentals.  So no on the BXT  as I have no clue.  As I will be down with medical tomorrow I will watch as much as I can.  Thanks so much!

  • Ok. If you did not use BXT- than the answer does not lie there.
Can you please make the file of concern available for download?
This could be a sensitivity (S/N) issue as well. I really need to see the image.

  • I sure can.  Which files would you like?   I was trying to attach the autocropp file from the master directory but I think I hit a forum limit.   Page is just spinning here and I am FIOS so I have the speed.   it has been 20 min now.   File is 249M zipped and 410M in xisf.

I am retired so I am home but later in the day this Colonoscopy prep will hit and I will be unavailable.   8-11 for that tomorrow is my procedure time frame
  • Oh... yeah, I did that last year.

You will not be able to attach it as a file. You need to upload the file to a cloud server (like Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox...etc). Make the file have permissions that anyone with the link can view/download.

  • If I did this right I have 3 files on dropbox. basic.   Autocrop from WBPP, #2 WBPP non linear stretch and WBPP-1 is the linear stretch .    Here is the link I got.   https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/9klee7iba591kka68gmm3/h?rlkey=gtd42qqt31myvepolu47l39o3&dl=0

  • In case that does not work I tried OneDrive and got that to work.     https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1atlc_yORKvh_SMZTZ1mu-UURor14eQhH?usp=sharing

  • I did look at the masterlight (cropped). It looks normal in that I do not get the error you describe. SPCC works just fine. BUT... this looks like narrowband imagery based on the plots of the color balance.

Update: Just spoke with you on the phone. Confirmed that the data is OK. SPCC works. This is NB data so SPCC isn't necessary. In addition, you might have tried SPCC on stretched data (which is why you didn't get the answer I did).

  • Thanks for all your help !!   I ran a set of data today and all is good.  I got the Soul Nebula to process following the info on the NGC1491 example and yes I used BXT and even stripped the stars which I had not done.   Thanks so much.    Looks like I have have clear sky in ~ 1 hr so going out w/o that filter and getting some shots   going after Collinder 70 if I can get a clear view over the top of the trees in the arc.     PS passed my test I get 10 years :).   HAGD and weak!!
