cloning a region from image onto another

I recall seeing somewhere in Fundamentals Adam's method for masking an area on one image and using pixelmath to "paste" it into another image at the same position. For the life of me I can locate that now.  My issue is to use an unsaturated but nevertheless large bright star region (image from a CCD) to clone over the same star in a saturated image (CCD - so black artefacts from the CCD)

There are a couple of places.

However, the latest and easiest method is to use the Substitute script that was written for me!
