Combine layers with mask

Hello Adam!

As a new mono user, I'm trying different ideas and approaches for my workflow. Between all those trial and errors, a thought crossed my mind - not sure if it is valid...

I have Sii, Ha and Oiii data and as you can imagine Oiii are really faint. I've attached pics of Ha and Oiii (Ha = 18h, Oiii = 22h).

Is it possible to use channel combination or pixelmath to combine those linear SHO data, while in Oiii using a range mask to include only the strongest signal areas (pic example)?

  • Yes... but this is the same as black clip thresholding with NB ColourMapper (or any screening method).
You would not need to make a separate mask.
I am assuming you want to color each channel... this is precisely what NB ColourMapper can do for you. Just adjust the Histogram of the OIII layer and raise its black point.

  • Yes exactly!
I've noticed that especially with the  NB ColourMapper (after watching Fundamentals and YT video) but as it seems, I hadn't played enough with the histogram there.

I'm gonna retry with the black point tip.

    Thanks Adam!
